  • The country has been divided into oil exploration blocks. Twenty six blocks (16 onshore and 10 offshore) are available.  The area ranges from 60 to 6000 Km².

  • The deep water sector of the Exclusive Economic Zone of the Gulf of Mexico (59 blocks with an average area of 2000 km² and a depth of 2000 m)  is offered. It is possible to find large oilfields in this off-shore area. Top-of-the-line technology is required for exploitation.

  • The Santa Lucia Castellanos Mine contains lead and zinc. It has approximately 11 mineral oxidizing areas with gold yields ranging from 5 to 8 grams per ton. Capital contributions are required to develop and exploit it, as well as for the construction and running of one mineral processing plant.

  • Areas for geological prospecting and exploration of basic and precious metals in which geological prospecting is to be undertaken by foreign partners under a total-risk contract. Geological exploration falls under a shared-risk framework. Should a deposit be found, joint venture companies will be set up to exploit it.

  • Construction of new power stations for co-generation of electricity using sugar cane biomass.

  • Possibilities to negotiate the modernization of existing networks.

  • Production of glass containers for the food and pharmaceutical industries and for exports. The factory is located in Las Tunas Province.

  • Production of pressed glassware (table glassware, jars, ice-cream cups, etc.) in La Lisa Glass Factory, City of Havana. The construction of a production line for fluorescent lamps (t-8 type) is also considered.

  • Increased production of tires for vehicles.

  • Production of Porous Ammonium Nitrate (for export markets) at Nuevitas’ and Cienfuegos´ Fertilizer Plants. 

  • Production of rayon yarn at Rayon-producing plant, under Rayonitro Enterprise, in Matanzas.

  • Production of export-oriented pesticides.

  • Modernization of the chlorine and caustic soda plant.

INVESTMENT POTENTIALITY FOR CUBAN ENTERPRISES ABROAD - 2004

The Pharmaceutical and Chemical industry promotes the creation of:

  •  Joint ventures abroad for the production and commercialization of generic pharmaceutical products. The Cuban side would provide: technology transfer and know-how, projects, the Author Control and its comprehensive management, technical assistance for the validation of systems and operations, documents for the registration of drugs, qualification and training in Cuba, laboratory tests in Cuba. The foreign partner would contribute the necessary investment capital as well as the working capital for the beginning of operations.

  • Commercializing enterprises of Cuban made medications abroad, considering within this modality the commercialization of finished drugs and repackaging of Cuban medications in bulk for their further commercialization. The Cuban side would provide transfer of technology, and the know how for the repackaging and analysis of Cuban products and other products. The foreign partner should contribute the required capital for the investment, as well as the working capital for the beginning of operations.

  • Commercializing enterprises of Cuban produced medications with technology and know how provided by the foreign partner, including within this modality the commercialization of finished medications and/or the repackaging of Cuban medications in bulk to be later marketed. The Cuban side would provide: technology transfer and know how for the repackaging and analysis of the pharmaceutical products. The foreign partner should contribute the necessary capital for the investment as well as the working capital to start operations.
