  • Production of final molasses-based alcohol. It comprises:

  • Installation of distillation systems for production of extra-fine alcohol in existing distilleries with capacity of 500 Hl/day, or in Ports receiving distilled crude alcohol from tributary Distilleries.

  • Rehabilitation and modernization of existing distilleries (500-800 Hl/day.

  • New distillery with capacity of 800 Hl/day for the production of export-oriented fine and extrafine alcohol.

  • Expansion and modernization of existing facilities for production of rum and other alcoholic beverages.

  • Production of bagasse-based agglomerate boards in existing factories in  Ciego de Ávila, Las Tunas and Havana provinces.

  • Production of  bagasse-based MDF boards.

  • Production of cement-agglomerate bagasse-based boards.

  • Production of technical dextran (industrial use)  and its by-products in Matanzas province.

  • Production of furfural-based alcohol in a brand-new  plant in Camagüey province.

  • Production of glucose and sorbitol in Villa Clara and Camagüey provinces.

  • Electricity co-generation  projects:

    • New thermal power station (25-50 Mw). It consists in the elimination of the existing energy block of the sugar factory and the creation of an independent block of high efficiency and operation parameters. This unit will receive all biomass from the sugar mill which, in return, will receive low-pressure steam and electricity. Most of the generated electricity would be marketed in the national network.

    • New turbo-generator (5-10 Mw).  In this case, the idea is to use  surplus steam to generate electricity by means of the installation of an additional condensation turbo-generator. This would allow to curve down current power consumption levels in around 25-40%. It would also allow for the marketing of  surplus electricity to the public network or another specific consumer in the territory.

  • During the non-harvest season, the thermoelectric plant might use bagasse stored in nearby sugar mills. It might also use sugarcane harvest wastes or any other fossil fuel.

INVESTMENT POTENTIALITY FOR CUBAN ENTERPRISES ABROAD - 2004

As a general rule, the negotiation policy abroad is based on the contribution of technologies, know how, and technical assistance. The foreign partner is expected to provide the localization of the projects, financing, and market.

Potentials for investing abroad.

  • Creation of joint businesses abroad for the production and commercialization of products obtained through technologies developed in Cuba, which value and use sugar and its byproducts as the main raw material, as it is the case of Beverages production, food processing plants for human and animal consumption, among others.

  • Integration of all the technical and production elements of the sugar industry (projects, equipment design, research, manufacture of different equipment, construction, assembly, and operation of sugar mills and by-products factories) for the further sale abroad of equipment and services, either individually, or as “turnkey” projects.

  • Promotion for the creation of joint businesses abroad for the commercialization of services, technical assistance, consulting services, different studies, projects, development of software and systems, courses and trainings; supported by the wide knowledge and experience MINAZ has achieved.

  • Creation of joint businesses abroad for the production and refining of sugar, as well as further commercialization of this product. Regarding sugar refining, Cuban crude sugar may be included as the main raw material.

  • Production and commercialization of products obtained through technologies developed by the Cuban Institute of the Sugar Byproducts. (ICIDCA).

  • Promotion of the creation of joint businesses abroad for the production and commercialization of sugar tensioning devices, Anticor, Ifopol, and super-steady paste, using technologies developed by the Cuban Institute of Sugar Research (ICINAZ).

  • Promotion for the creation of joint businesses abroad for the production and commercialization of newspaper-type paper, Lignomed and Predical, by using technologies developed by the Research Institute of the Bagasse Cellulose (CUBA-9).
